Celebrating the Cinema of the Unconscious -The Surreal & Uncanny

Welcome To The Sur-REEL & Uncanny Film Fest

This London film festival seeks international filmmakers whose work is inspired by the unconscious in any way. Therefore, surreal, ‘uncanny’, dreamlike or experimental films are encouraged. Directors inspired by the works of David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Luis Bunuel or Yorgos Lanthimos for example or even the theories of Sigmund Freud.

This film festival offers:

  • A physical screening in London, UK before an audience. (no online event)
  • Selected filmmakers will be featured in a book about surrealism & the uncanny.
  • Free film festival submission for the first month.
  • Low submission fees of £5 no matter what the film festival category.

The free submission and low fees are because we recognise that most independent filmmakers are struggling on low budgets and our first priority is to promote great work and discover the next ‘uncanny’ talent.

Narrative shorts, experimental films and documentaries are all considered.
